We have an hour lunch break every day from 12.10pm until 1.10pm.  This period of time enables the children to have a break, enjoy some time playing with their friends, engaging in activities and to eat their dinner.  Pupils are supervised by our Learning Support Staff who are familiar and attuned to our children's needs.  Our School Sports Apprentice is also available to engage the children in purposeful physical activity during this time.

A cooked midday meal is available to all pupils open a daily basis and is served by Leicestershire School Food Support.  The meals are cooked off site and are transported in.  A packed lunch may be brought from home if preferred.  We order the meals on the day so children can be flexible – a packed lunch one day and a hot meal the next.  They just need to let their teacher know in the morning when we complete the dinner register. 

In Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 coked school dinners are provided free of charge as part of the government Universal Free School Meals initiative.  In Key Stage 2 (Years 3, 4, 5 and 6) dinners are charged at £2.40 per meal.  Please see the dinner menus below for the choices available.  They rotate on a 3 weekly basis.  

 

Free School Meals

Even though meals are free for all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 it is worth considering whether you are eligible for Free School Meals based upon income.  The benefits of doing this have included food vouchers provided by the Local Authority during the school holidays and school receiving extra income which we can use to support pupils - this is called Pupil Premium.  It is quick and easy to apply and we are happy to help to process applications for families - please just contact the school office.

It says on the Leicestershire County Council website that if you receive any of the following benefits your child may be able to get free school meals:

• Income Support
• income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
• income-related Employment and Support Allowance
• support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
• the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
• Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
• Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
• Universal Credit - if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)
