https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/ It is important that you DO NOT give them the work of the year or two above as this is not how our curriculum works. We go deeper with questions rather than skip onto the next year. If they are finding the work difficult try and get them to apply the skills in a problem solving situation. Thanks :) Click on the button below to see guidance on how we approach our calculations depending on the level on confidence (not age related). Our next topic is Marvellous Mountains: there is a lot to explore - literally! We will be starting off in the location below - but where is it? Discussion points
Could you write a short letter or postcard to someone in hospital with a little artwork?
It is a lonely time in hospital for patients as they can't see family and friends very easily at the moment and are feeling lonely. They would love to know about the things you have been enjoying doing in the sunshine and it would cheer them up to hear from someone. REMEMBER - we don't give away personal information - first name only, no home address just school's, no private details about who is in your family needs to be given. Pop any letters and artwork into school and make someone smile :) Pop any letters and artwork into school so that we can send on - please don't seal in an envelope as we need to check it before passing on. Thank you. Possible additional activities:![]() While you are at home, why not keep a diary?
It might seem like you haven't got a lot to say. Remember to think about describing your feelings and thoughts as well as things that happened on that day. You could add photos and drawings to make it personal. In the future, people will be fascinated to know what happened in people's homes during this time of isolation. |
Looking for a book to dive into with your child? Here are some that come recommended and link with our topic on Mighty Mountains!
Here is chapter 1,2 and the start of 3 - of The Abominables (see below). "Hilarious, touching, romping fun..." The Times The rest of chapter 3 coming soon... A fun novel on the theme of mountains, but this one is a more light-hearted choice, popular with lower KS2. Full of humour and imagination, this laugh-out-loud book tells the story of a young woman who is kidnapped by the Yetis of the Himalayan Mountains and given the tasks of bringing up their unruly children. Although this book is very funny, it also carries a strong message about caring for our planet.
A book crammed with exciting information about the author's adventures in the world's remotest places, and it's all presented in a highly readable journal-style format. The neat drawings are done by the author, too, and there are fun quizzes dotted through the book.
If you are looking for a gripping novel on the theme of mountains, this one could be for you. This story, from the popular children's author Michael Morpurgo, recounts the perilous journey of Ashley and his Uncle Sung across the Himalayan Mountains as they battle for survival.
This is the story of Tomas, whose father is a climbing guide in the Swiss mountains. When his father disappears, Tomas worries that a mountain monster called the Brockenspectre might be at work and sets about to brave the treacherous mountain terrains to find his father before it is too late.Parents: This is an emotive song by Alicia Keys which is a message for everyone - celebrating the good job being done at the moment and in particular key / front line workers. You may wish to watch it first before playing it to your child .
Class BLOG: Share your thoughts, work and say hello with the class.
This is not accessible to the public - only our class. I will check all comments and entries before they are shared. When you save your work in purple mash make sure you save it in class 3. Then you can opt to share (world icon), choose our blog (see above). You then need to give it a title which will be related to the work you are sharing or theme of discussion. You can put in a summary and then save. When I have approved it, your class mates will be able to see your work or comments. I thought it might be nice to help with our class connection during this time. Mrs Hodder I will be checking regularly to see what you are up to and there will be a range of ways that I can do this - one will be through our class email: class3@harby.leics.sch.uk, one will be completing tasks on Purple mash, Mathletics or Times table Rockstars. If you are missing logins let me know so that I can re send these.
