The National Curriculum for Key Stages 1 and 2 (Pupils in Years 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6)
September 2014 sees the advent of the new National Curriculum as a statutory document to be followed. This is a lengthy and detailed document that specifies what is to be covered in the core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science and the foundation subjects of Art and Design, Computing, Design and Technology, Geography, History, Music, Physical Education and Religious Education. Languages is an area that is also statutory in Key Stage 2 (Years 3, 4, 5 and 6) only. As a school with mixed aged classes we recognise the importance of carefully mapping out the curriculum to ensure that children receive the coverage to which they are entitled to in all subject areas. This will be a focus for development over the coming year and is highlighted within the schools own plans for development. Our curriculum map will be revised and reviewed to ensure that we get it right for all children and may change in response to our reviews of how things are working. Each member of teaching staff has specific responsibility for various subject areas and we are all working together to ensure best practice across the school. To keep parents updated with what is happening within their child's class we will update class pages on the website for current 'weekly' learning and produce topic webs or overviews for each term as a minimum. We will regularly update these and ensure that, as our planning, implementation and reviews of the new National Curriculum develops, we share this with you.
